SMEG

SMEG is the Italian manufacturer behind the curved-door, chrome-handled appliances most people picture when they think of retro kitchen design. The 50’s Style range is the best known, but the catalogue runs much wider — from small countertop appliances through to full range cookers and built-in wine coolers.

What do the SMEG model codes mean?

Model codes tell you more than the marketing names do, and they are worth learning before you buy.

FAB is the 50’s Style refrigeration line. The number is the size step: FAB28 and FAB30 are 60cm wide, FAB32 is the heavier 60cm build, and FAB50 is the 80cm flagship. The letter after it — R or L — is the hinge side, which matters more than most buyers expect. Browse fridges and freezers.
Classica, Portofino and Victoria are the cooker families. Victoria sits at the top with the traditional range-cooker profile in 90cm and 110cm; Classica is the cleaner, simpler line and includes practical 60cm freestanding models. See cookers and ovens.
Collezione covers the espresso machines, including automatic bean-to-cup models and manual machines. Pair these with a coffee grinder, or browse all coffee machines.
Countertop appliances — kettles, toasters, blenders and stand mixers — share the same colour palette, so a kettle and toaster bought separately will still match.
Cookware covers pans, pots and woks finished to sit alongside the appliances rather than hide in a cupboard.

What should you check before ordering a SMEG fridge or cooker?

For fridges and cookers, check three things against your kitchen: the width, the hinge side on FAB models, and whether a built-in unit needs a prepared cabinet opening and a nearby power point. Getting the hinge wrong is the most common and most avoidable problem. Each product page states the model code and hinge side.
